The Department:
To meet the needs of an expanding academic vision and a growing student body, Ringling College is seeking qualified candidates for a full time faculty position in Motion Design (MD) specializing in 2D and 3D computer animation / compositing. The department has a supportive, collegial faculty and flexible curriculum that strongly values excellence. The MD department has robust support dedicated to using the most current technology.
Included among the Duties and Responsibilities of this position are: contributions to the development and refinement of the program. Ability to teach traditional or computer animation techniques, compositing, and additional related subjects among a menu of beginning through advanced Motion Design courses within a structure of three courses or nine credits per semester. Ongoing commitment to creative work/research in the profession is expected and active participation with faculty, department and college service is required.
This is a full time faculty appointment with benefits. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2012.
Required Qualifications for the position will include evidence of:
- Master's degree in motion design, broadcast design, computer or traditional animation, or related field, with an outstanding record of professional creative achievement OR a master's degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline) OR a 4-year professional degree in art or design and equivalent experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of professional achievement in the field
- A background in animation, or motion design for broadcast and/or commercial, as well as skill with new digital technology relevant to the area
- Skill with 2D and 3D software such as After Effects, Maya and Cinema 4D
- Experience with studio lighting, video capture and compositing techniques
- Strong graphic design skills, with knowledge of image creation tools such as Adobe products
- An ability to clearly communicate and work effectively with faculty, students and administrators
- Willingness to work in a collaborative educational environment
Preferred Qualifications include evidence of:
- An MFA or other terminal degree in the field
- Successful college level teaching
- Capacity to increase the national reputation of the Motion Design program
- Awareness of both current and evolving issues facing the field and strategies to best address them
- Proficiency with 2D animation and image creation software, AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator.
- Proficiency with 3D animation software, Maya, Cinema 4D
- Proficiency in creating storyboards and animatics
- Knowledge of scripting/programming for animation
- Significant professional/creative practice and work experience
- Proficiency in new digital technology relevant to the area
